In a world of constant, frantic consumption and growing environmental stress, we should do our best to minimize waste and prevent the use of plastic bags, which only contribute to pollution. Crafts like crochet have a decisive role in helping our planet because they allow the creation of lasting pieces that can be used time after time.
Crocheting a simple and beautiful bag to carry groceries, books, or even towels for a day at the beach or at a countryside picnic can be very fun. We let our creative side do its magic and end up with a one-of-a-kind bag that is also sustainable.
The Companhia das Agulhas Team in Portugal designed this beautiful bag using Hoooked Tossa, a 100% natural jute yarn that is resistant and strong enough to hold even heavier items.
This pattern starts at the bottom, with a crochet square, until you begin to work in the round in a granny-like stitch. It finishes with a nice sturdy border and two circular handles, long enough to drape it over your shoulder. The instructions are easy to follow, and the pattern can be pretty addictive, so you will have a brand-new bag to take out and about.
Grab your crochet hook and have fun.
